What Lies Behind

Our subject was the classical one of ‘still life’ but instead of flowers or fruit I took the contents of my recycling bin - bags, tins, boxes and bottles - and built an image from these as a comment on how even our food is part of large industrial processes.
In the series of three smaller paintings this material slowly disappears from view. The two larger works the recycling is either moved towards some thing new with unexpected colours or lies behind fresh food, in this case fruit.
In their quiet presence, these works are fragments of a broader narrative, an invitation to see beauty as a powerful and transformative force, even in the midst of sorrow.
